China and Russia are to begin cooperation in high-speed railway projects. China will not only have a large new market for railway development, but also take a step forward in building the Silk Road economic belt on the Eurasian continent, says an article in the Beijing News.

Excerpt:

Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Russia saw the sides agree that China will help Russia build a high-speed railway connecting Kazan and Moscow.

The bilateral cooperation is mutually beneficial to both sides. The high-speed transport corridor connecting Beijing and Moscow, proposed by Li, will be a key project in the Silk Road economic belt China plans to construct.

Li’s visit further clarified political cooperation under the framework of “all-round strategic partnership”. Both countries are against unilateralism and intervention in other countries’ internal affairs. The two will jointly organize commemorative activities marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II next year.

Deepening Sino-Russia cooperation is not an impromptu choice, but an outcome decided by the countries’ size, power, status and responsibility for international affairs. Li’s visit further extends the cooperation of the two.
