Douby's 75-point night

China Daily's CBA season highlights

The Zhejiang Golden Bulls' former NBA guard, Quincy Douby, scored an amazing 75 points, the highest tally in the league's 18-year history, in a 154-129 win over Shanxi Brave Dragons on Jan 2.

Referee banned

Referee Wu Minhua was suspended for 10 games by the league on Jan 10 for missing a call on a Bayi Rockets 24-second violation in the last minute of their game against the Qingdao Eagles. Two assistant referees, He Jingzhou and Han Xu, were both banned for five games.

Williams fails drug test

Shanxi Brave Dragons US forward Marcus Williams was suspended on Dec 31 after testing positive for marijuana in what officials called the league's first doping case since it was formed in the mid-1990s. Williams was banned for six months, while head coach Zhang Degui and the club were fined $800 and $1,600 respectively.

Long-term coach replaced

Citing health reasons, Li Chunjiang stepped down as Guangdong Southern Tigers head coach on Jan 6, bidding farewell to an era that saw him lead the squad to seven league championships since 2001. Former national team coach Jonas Kazlauskas of Lithuania joined the club as an assistant.

'Agent' down

The Shanghai Sharks' biggest offseason signing in club history, former NBA All-Star Gilbert "Agent Zero" Arenas, was spoiled when he left the court with a thigh strain in the first quarter of the season opener against the Beijing Ducks on Nov 24.
