ZHENGZHOU - Two swimming national records were smashed at the ongoing National Championships on Friday.
In the men's 200m individual medley, Zhejiang swimmer Wang Shun won the gold in 1:57.50 seconds, which was 1.03 seconds faster than the old record. His teammate Mao Feilian was second in 1:59.63, while Li Xiang from Tianjin took third in 2:00.32.
"I didn't expect it," said Wang. "The result is good."
"Sun Yang is my long time model," he added. "I have not thought much about my future and I just want to do everything right."
Ning Haitao from China Navy broke the men's 100m freestyle national record to win the event in 48.60. The old record 48.73 was set by Chen Zuo.
"I just followed the advice of my coach and swam under my rhythm," Ning said.
Lu Zhiwu from Zhejiang and Yu Hexin from Guangdong Ticai placed second and third respectively.
