The China Sudoku Championship will kick off on Aug 4, when masters of the game from around the country will test their wits against each other.
Sudoku fans can sign up at the official website of the championship committee, www.sudoku.org.cn, from June 24 to July 28, for registration.
According to Chen Cen, director of the Beijing Sudoku Union, who is responsible for the designing the puzzles, the competition hopes to encourage young talent ahead of the world championships.
“The game has gained great popularity in the country, especially among the youth in recent years, and it is hoped the competition will help us find capable candidates for the national team for the upcoming Eighth World Sudoku Championship this October.”
