BARCELONA, Spain - Brazil's Cesar Cielo Filho claimed on Monday gold medal in men's 50-meters butterfly swimming discipline at the Palau Sant Jordi in the 15th FINA World Championships being held in Barcelona until Aug 4.

Cielo, who was one of the favorites to get the podium, finished the race in 23:01, winning the fifth world title of his career. He was followed by the United States' Eugene Godsoe and France's Frederick Bousquet who had took silver and bronze respectively.

Godsoe finished the 50m in 23:05 while Bousquet, fourth in Shanghai 2011, took the lead of the World Rankings in 2013 with a time of 23:00 and finished Monday's race in 23:11.

Cielo is considered one of the best Brazilian swimmers in history. He took gold medal in 50m and 100m freestyle in Rome 2009 and Shanghai 2011, while also getting gold in 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly in Shanghai two years ago.

Cielo told reporters he was not feeling at 100 percent after having surgery in both knees but said to be focus on swimming fast and fast.

"Gold medal is a great relief," he said.
