Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei has signed a contract with the Guangdong Century City Badminton Club to compete in the top Chinese league.
The club made the announcement on Aug 12 in Dongguan, Guangdong province.
The signing came just one day after Lee was defeated by Chinese superstar Lin Dan in the Badminton World Champions final in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong.
Lee did not appear in the signing ceremony, in which the Guangdong-based club also signed a number of top Chinese players to compete in the new domestic season.
The Guangdong Century City Badminton Club was promoted to the top Chinese league just one year after it was established in 2012. The new season will begin in September.
