BEIJING - Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United capitan, confirmed a link with the Chinese Super League (CSL) side Shanghai SIPG, according to report on Wednesday.

Piers Morgan, the former CNN anchor, confirmed this in his column of the UK-based Daily Mail Online that, the 30-year-old British was offered a gigantic three-year deal worth nine figures after tax.

Rumors about Rooney's transfer to CSL spread out during the winter transfer window as big names such as Alex Teixeira, Jackson Martinez, Ramires, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Gervinho have launched their season in China this year.

Morgan wrote in the column that Shanghai SIPG offered "ridiculous" sums of money.

Shanghai SIPG, the runners-up of last season, had two losses and one victory in 2016 season.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's team was stunned 1-0 by Henan Jianye last Saturday in the first round of Chinese Super League. In the AFC Champions League, Shanghai SIPG lost to A-League champions Melbourne Victory 2-1 away and then had a 2-1 home win over Suwon Bluewings of South Korea.
