May is the peak month for marriage and honeymoons and romantic islands are a big hit among newly-weds.
According to tourism website Tuniu.com, the most popular islands for Beijing residents are the Maldives, Phuket, Bali, Boracay and Sabah. May and June are the best times to travel as prices rise sharply in late summer.
Apart from the romantic aspect of lapping waves and easy-going lifestyles, islands are also popular because travel visas are easy to get.
Some islands, including the Seychelles, are visa free for Chinese tourists. Tour agencies also offer a full range of wedding services, from the cake to a hotel.
Europe, with its romantic cities and historic sites, is also a hot destination.
Domestic honeymooners favor Yunnan and Hainan provinces.
