Washington DC seeks more Chinese tourism

The 50-room luxury resort in Yangon’s embassy district is a restored early 20th century colonial teak home formerly occupied by Kaya state’s governor. Its romantic gardens, lotus ponds and swimming pool shared with a friendly flock of peacocks makes it the most respected address in town. Mexican executive chef Ricardo Lujan presides over the kitchen and offers visits to local markets with his Myanmar cooking classes.

Sule Shangri-La

Rebranded in April from Traders to Sule Shangri-La after two years of renovation, the well-appointed 484 guestrooms and suites hotel is close to Bogyoke market and Sule pagoda. Its generous ballroom space is popular for weddings, while restaurants include Café Sule all day dining and Summer Palace Chinese restaurant. Leisure facilities feature a fitness center, beauty salon and outdoor swimming pool.

The Loft Yangon

A 32-room boutique hotel just down the road from the main train station, The Loft Yangon is perfect for travelers seeking designer digs. Exposed red brick walls are embellished with oversize black and white photos of typical Myanmar street life, and the polished hardwood floors warmly complement the red, white and black color scheme. Duplex suites offer a charming view of the city’s center from terraces with sun lounges.
