LOS ANGELES - A memorial service for two Chinese students who were shot and killed last week is scheduled to take place at Shrine Auditorium near University of Southern California (USC) Wednesday evening.

The parents of victims Ying Wu and Ming Qu, both 23, and their relatives will attend the event which is to begin at 6 pm, according to the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) in the school. The shrine is only a few blocks away from the scene of a double shooting which claimed the lives of a pair of electrical engineering graduate students.

Meanwhile, a three-day fundraising for the victims' families was arranged by CSSA. Partnered with the school authority, CSSA will begin taking donations at the memorial, which is expected to draw a huge amount of students from various countries including China.

Patrick Gannon, deputy chief of Los Angeles Police Department, said that the victims were shot two to three times as they were sitting in a 2003 BMW around 1 am last Wednesday.

Qu managed to get out of the car and tried to stagger to a nearby house before collapsing on the front porch. The shooter fled southbound after the shooting, and a black car was also seen leaving the area.

Minutes later, paramedics sent the victims to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead, Gannon said.

Police have checked surveillance video from the area in search of the car that left the crime scene shortly after the shooting. Detectives have come up with a list of 75 vehicles that match the vehicle's description, according to Gannon.
