M1905.com, the China Movie Channel website under China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, unveiled a set-top box that gives access to its 6,000 plus movie titles on Wednesday in Beijing.

"We hope to promote Chinese films in the overseas market with the launch of the top box," said Liang Longfei, M1905's director and vice-resident.

He said that the device will be priced at less than 1,000 yuan ($156) and had already received rave reviews from preview sessions.

Marc Ganis, principal of Jiaflix Enterprises, an American company that works on Sino-US cooperation in the film industry and a partner with M1905, said that the device mainly targets North American fans of Chinese movies and those of Chinese heritage. The installation promises access to an expanding movie library of both Chinese and international films that display in HD version and 5.1 surround sound.

The set top box is to first appear in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angles and New York. Besides developing the gadget, M1905.com and Jiaflix Enterprises have other attempts to introduce Chinese films abroad, including the upcoming New York Chinese Film Festival, which is in the third year and will open on Oct 17.
