Located on the Pamir Plateau, Tashi Kuergan Tajik autonomous county of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region borders Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

China Daily reporter Cui Jia and photographer Yao Tong visited herdsmen along the borders to witness how locals have maintained traditional lifestyle despite changes in their lives and attitudes.
