SAN FRANCISCO - Less than eight months of acting as Apple's new chief, Tim Cook has become the most popular chief executive officer (CEO) in any US companies as measured by employee approval, a US website announced on Friday.

On glassdoor.com's latest list of the Top 25 Highest Rated CEOs in the US, Tim Cook took the top spot with a 97 percent approval rating.

Glassdoor.com describes itself as a free jobs and career community that offers an inside look at jobs and companies with its content generated by employees, usually anonymously.

The website said the list of highest rated CEOs is based entirely on feedback from employees over the past year who were asked one simple survey question "do you approve of the way your CEO is leading the company?"

Cook, who was named Apple's CEO in August 2011 after the resignation of the late Steve Jobs, was followed on the list by Ernst & Young CEO Jim Turley and Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs, both had approval ratings of 95 percent.

American Express CEO Ken Chenault and Google CEO Larry Page ranked No. 4 and No. 5, both receiving 94 percent approval.

When Steve Jobs, who passed away in October last year, stepped down in August 2011 as Apple's CEO, his cumulative rating was the same as Cook at 97 percent approval.

But Glassdoor.com noted that during the previous survey covering the time between March 2010 and March 2011, the rating of Jobs was 95 percent approval.

"While many speculated how Cook would be received by (Apple) employees and how he would lead the tech giant, he seems to have settled in quite nicely," the website said in a blog post announcing the latest list.
