Local Chinese language teachers trained in Nepal

KATHMANDU - To promote better understanding of Nepalese and Chinese culture, a three-day local Chinese language teachers training workshop opened Kathmandu on Saturday.

Twenty local Chinese language teachers are participating in the workshop, organized by the Confucius Institute of Kathmandu University.

Zhang Shubin, Chinese Director and Associate Professor of the Confucius Institute, said that the workshop is organized to share the experience of native Chinese language teachers with local teachers in teaching Chinese.

"This program is the first program for the local Chinese language teachers in Nepal," Zhang told Xinhua. "We will share our experience in teaching Chinese phonetics, vocabulary and grammar and introduce three text books."

Bamdev Bhatta, a teacher from L.R.I. School, said that such training are beneficial for Nepalese learners.

"There are limited number of Chinese language translators in Nepali, this training will help to make things easy," Bhatta added.

In the last five years, Confucius Institute of Kathmandu University has taught Chinese language to 5,000 students in Nepal.
