The Chinese embassy in Papua New Guinea denied that the attackers who killed four Chinese nationals have been arrested, Global Times reported Friday.

The PNG newspaper, The National, reported on Thursday that four of the suspects of the killing have been arrested by local police. It also said they were under interrogation.

The embassy clarified that the people detained by the police were eight local employees of the bakery who were at the scene when the killing happened.

The police are still investigating the case and looking for clues around the attack place, according to the embassy.

Four Chinese were stabbed to death in a bakery on Monday in Papua New Guinea's capital of Port Moresby. The victims were three men and one woman, all from Shanghai.
