ISLAMABAD - Pakistani officials said that three people were injured in continued shelling by Indian forces on the Pakistani side of the Working Boundary in Punjab province on Friday.

TV channels quoted officials as saying that Indian troops fired at civilian areas at Charwa sector early morning.

Residents said Indian shelling damaged six houses and also killed several cattle.

Official sources said Pakistani border troops also returned fire.

Firing incidents between Pakistani and Indian troops have increased recently despite a ceasefire declared by both countries in 2003.

Both uneasy neighbors, who have fought three wars since their independence in 1947, accuse each other of ceasefire violations.

The directors general of military operations (DGMO) will meet soon to discuss implementation of the ceasefire.

During a meeting in New York between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif last month, both sides agreed to have their DGMOs meet regularly in order to maintain peace on the Line of Control.
