The crime took place during a blackout in the capital city's east district where the shop was located. The shop's Chinese owner was assailed by two robbers as he climbed onto the roof trying to start the electric generator, China's Trade Development Office in the Dominican Republic told reporters.
The victim's wife and daughter who suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, were being treated at a local hospital, it added.
The Trade Development Office has called on local authorities to speed up the investigation of the case and provide assistance to family members of the victims.
