CAIRO -- An Egyptian court sentenced Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie and 36 others to life in prison on Saturday, state-owned news agency MENA reported.

The court also upheld death sentences for 10 other Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters in the case of cutting road in Qalubiya city, north of the capital Cairo, in late July of 2012.

Mohamed Badie had been given death sentences in two separate cases over involvement in deadly protests that took place after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

After Morsi's ouster, Egyptian security forces have been carrying out a wide-scale crackdown on his supporters, arresting thousands of them and bringing them to trials.
