LIMA, Ohio - Authorities have apprehended the convicted killer of three Ohio high school students who escaped from prison.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections says 19-year-old T.J. Lane was captured at 1:20 am Friday by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.

Lane and two other inmates escaped from a state prison in Lima about 80 miles south of Toledo at 7:40 pm Thursday. One inmate was quickly captured. The third inmate, 45-year-old Clifford Opperud, remains at large.

Spokeswoman Joellen Smith said Lane has been returned to Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution and that administrative and criminal investigations have begun. Smith would not provide details about how the inmates escaped.

Lane pleaded guilty last year to shooting three students in February 2012 at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland.
