"Unfortunately, the young girl who had been infected with Ebola virus died today (Friday)," the director of the Kayes regional hospital in western Mali Dr. Toumani Konare said.
He said after the discovery of the first confirmed Ebola case in Mali, a total of 23 people were placed in isolation, among them 12 family members of the young girl and 11 health personnel.
"Currently, everything is going on well. There has been no appearance of signs among all those who have been placed in isolation," Konare added.
Mali reported its first confirmed Ebola case on Thursday. Official sources said the girl had returned to the country on Oct. 20 after attending his father's funeral in Guinea, in the company of her grandmother.
Immediately symptoms of fever started appearing on Tuesday, her family admitted her in a local clinic and later at the Kayes regional hospital, as a suspected Ebola case.
