TOKYO - A volcano is erupting on a small island in southern Japan, and authorities have advised residents to evacuate from the immediate area.
Mount Shindake erupted about 10 a.m. Monday, sending a large plume into the sky.
About 140 people live on remote Kuchinoerabu island.
