MOSCOW - The exact date for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Japan has not been decided yet, the Kremlin said Monday.

"At the moment, no exact dates have been set," the TASS news agency quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying. Peskov also noted that Moscow remains open to any contacts with Tokyo.

Earlier, TASS cited the Nikkei reporting that Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida is expected to visit Russia in late August to prepare for Putin's visit to Japan.

Kishida's visit to Russia, which was originally scheduled for spring this year, was canceled due to the Ukraine crisis and Japan 's joining Western sanctions against Russia due to the latter's alleged involvement in the crisis.

In late April, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declined the invitation from Russia to attend events held in Moscow to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany and the end of World War II in Europe.
