Chinese electronics giant TCL, the world's third-largest TV maker, has unveiled a new line of QUHD products - the X1 TV - which is expected to hit the US market in the second half of this year.
Presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the new line features Dolby Vision, the high-dynamic range (HDR) technology from Dolby Laboratories, as well as Quantum Dot technology for enhanced color resolution and clarity.
The TCL X1 65" series combines the best picture and sound quality, design and function - the four aspects that customers care about the most, according to Warren Wang, vice-president of TCL multimedia and general manager of their overseas business center.
The new series represents TCL's first effort to target the upscale market in the US. "It's also part of TCL's global strategy to build up the brand," Wang said.
TCL X1 TVs are equipped with an Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K display and TCL 4K Creative Pro up-scaling, allowing viewers to enjoy the latest 4K content with increased detail and realistic clarity, the company said.
The TVs feature a color space powered by Quantum Dot technology, which was first adopted by TCL in 2013. With up to 1,000 units peak brightness and 288 zones of direct-lit LED local dimming, the X1 series will enhance the level of dynamic contrast and precise control of light and dark for greater color resolution and clarity.
Dolby Vision HDR delivers images that are up to 40 times brighter than those seen on today's standard TV sets, deep darks that provide a new level of richness and precision, as well as expanded contrast while still maintaining lifelike color and detail, the company claims.
"We are happy to partner with TCL," said Roland Vlaicu, vice-president of consumer imaging at Dolby Vision. "I think for TCL, the benefit will be the Dolby Vision ecosystem and the broad adoption of the content and format in a sense that we have strong support from studios, including Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures and Universal studios which all bring Dolby Vision titles to homes."
TCL and Dolby are also partnering with major streaming service providers, including VUDU, to provide the new X1 Series with access to the latest 4K Ultra HD premium content mastered in Dolby Vision from leading studios.
