President Xi Jinping and his United States counterpart Donald Trump held their second phone conversation this month on Monday, and exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation and bilateral relations.

Xi said China firmly opposes actions that violate the resolutions by the United Nations Security Council, and China expects all the relevant parties to remain restrained and avoid taking moves that aggravate peninsula tension.

Only when all parties involved shoulder their due duties and meet each other halfway could the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue be resolved at an early date and the peninsula's denuclearization be achieved, Xi said.

"We are willing to work with all parties involved, including the US, to jointly work for the peace of the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia and the world," Xi added.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close contact through various means and exchange views on issues of common concerns at a timely manner.

Xi and Trump had their first meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Florida on April 6 and 7.

One of the meeting's major highlights is that the two countries established four high-level dialogue mechanisms, respectively focusing on diplomacy and security, economy, law enforcement and cybersecurity, society and culture.

Then Xi and Trump made a phone call on April 12 on bilateral ties, the peninsula situation and the Syrian issue.

Xi noted that members of the public from both countries and the international community have spoken positively of their recent meeting and their phone talks.

Currently, the international situation is "changing rapidly" and it is greatly necessary for China and the US to maintain close contact and exchange views on the important issues in a timely manner, Xi said.

On bilateral ties, Xi said the two sides should effectively implement the consensus that has been reached and cement the stable and developing momentum of the bilateral relationship.

Working teams from both countries should strengthen coordination and effectively prepare for Trump's visit to China within the year, Xi said.

Also, the teams should initiate relevant arrangements at an date for the four newly-built dialogues, Xi said.

Trump said he had a very good meeting with Xi at Mar-a-Lago and he is satisfied with the development of the relationship and is full of respect for the Chinese people.

Trump also said he expects another meeting with Xi soon as well as his state visit to China.

Xi said the two sides should press ahead exchanges and cooperation in areas including the economy and trade, military, law-enforcement, cyberspace, culture and localities.

Also, the two countries should reinforce communication on international and regional issues and push for the consistent development of China-US ties, Xi added.

Trump said it is greatly important for the two sides to maintain communication and coordination over major issues.
