Memorials in the US to 'comfort women'
In addition to the 10-foot-tall bronze statue in St Mary's Square in San Francisco, here are the locations of other memorials in the United States to "comfort women".
Palisades Park, New Jersey
The first "comfort women"memorial, a brass plaque on a block of stone, was dedicated in 2010 in Palisades Park, a borough across the Hudson River from Manhattan.
Long Island, New York
The second memorial, consisting of two stone tablets bearing the "comfort women" resolutions signed by the New York State assembly and senate in 2012, was erected in Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, Long Island.
Bergen County, New Jersey
The memorial, a plaque affixed to a stone, was set up on the lawn of the Bergen County courthouse in 2013.
Glendale, California
A 1,100-pound bronze statue depicting a girl in Korean clothing sitting next to an empty chair was erected in the city's Central Park in 2013.
Fairfax, Virginia
A plaque affixed to a stone flanked by two butterfly-shaped benches, was unveiled at the Comfort Women Memorial Peace Garden in May 2014 on the back lawn of the Fairfax County Government Center.
Union City, New Jersey
A butterfly sculpture mounted on top of a stone with a plaque on it was dedicated in August 2014 in the Liberty Plaza.
Brookhaven, Georgia
The life-sized bronze statue of a young girl seated next to an empty chair was unveiled in June 2017 in a public park, Blackburn Park II.
