KUNMING - Police have detained a man who boarded a bus with gasoline on Friday afternoon and attempted to set it on fire in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The suspect surnamed Xiong, a native of neighboring Guizhou Province, boarded the No.84 bus in Kunming, capital of Yunnan, said the Kunming Public Security Bureau.
When the bus started up, he poured the gasoline onto the floor at the back of the bus and attempted to ignite it. The bus driver immediately opened the doors, evacuated all passengers and reported it to the police.
Police attended the scene and arrested Xiong. There were no casualties.
Xiong has been detained over allegedly endangering public security via dangerous means. The case is still being investigated.
On June 7, a bus in east China's coastal city Xiamen burst into flames, leaving 47 people dead and 34 others injured. Police later said suspect Chen Shuizong, who also died in the fire, committed the arson with gasoline.
