One million yuan ($163,000) in royalties from former premier Zhu Rongji was donated recently to students, people.com.cn reported on Friday.
The donation was used to support the less well-off students and their teachers in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Hunan province.
Zhu said that he would not keep even a coin when his book Zhu Rongji Meets the Press was published in January 2009 and would donate all royalties.
In January 2013, a student foundation, with 20 million yuan in royalties donated by Zhu, was established with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
The million yuan to support the students and teachers in Hunan was from the foundation.
