Foreign dignitaries who have visited Nanjing memorial hall

Gary Locke

Former US ambassador to China Gary Locke visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall on Thursday, April 24, pausing for a moment of silence in the center of the memorial hall.

He viewed the sculpture depicting the massacre, as well as the "Mass Grave of 10,000" exhibit.

Locke said his visit to the memorial was not meant to be political. He encouraged more people to visit to learn from the tragic event.

Locke was the 10th US ambassador to China and the first of Chinese descent.
