China's Ministry of Transport on Wednesday announced a guideline to adopt an intelligent public transport system to improve efficiency and reduce traffic congestion.
Real-time information should be easily accessible via websites, electronic boards, apps and hotlines, the ministry said. Citizens are also encouraged to make suggestions, comments and complaints about public transport service.
In the future, citizens waiting for buses can use their smartphones to find out updated arrival times, and also whether buses are jammed with passengers.
Beijing has already launched an app that provides real-time departure and arrival information for 125 of the more than 1,000 bus routes in the city.
