Hollywood is giving Jackie Chan an honorary Oscar.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday that Chan will be given an honorary Oscar at its annual Governors Awards on Nov 12.
The 62-year-old Chan, who has never been nominated for an Oscar, was praised by the Academy for his "distinctive international career".
Also receiving an honorary Oscar will be film editor Anne V. Coates, documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman, and casting director Lynn Stalmaster. Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy said all four are "true pioneers and legends in their crafts".
Chan, from Hong Kong, has starred in more than 30 martial arts films, and has directed, produced and written movies as well in his 50-plus years in the industry.
He made his motion picture debut when he was 8-years-old, having trained with the Peking Opera. He made his crossover debut in Rumble in the Bronx and achieved success through the Rush Hour franchise, Shanghai Noon, and The Karate Kid. Most recently, Chan has lent his voice for the Kung Fu Panda series.
