Yo Yo Ma's concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday has sold out. If you still want a weekend of classical music, I strongly recommend China Philharmonic Orchestra's concert at the Forbidden City Concert Hall, under the baton of Jonathan Nott.
They will perform Chinese composer Chen Peixun's First Symphony and Anton Bruckner's Ninth Symphony in D Minor.
The British conductor is no stranger to the capital's music scene. At the 2007 Beijing Music Festival, he conducted his Bamberg Symphony Orchestra from Bavaria, Germany, with piano star Lang Lang.
After a choral scholarship at Cambridge and training at the Royal Northern College of Music, Nott launched his career in the mid-1980s in Germany, where he assisted principal conductors at many big orchestras.
He was principal conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra before he took his post at Bamberg in 2000. His time at Bamberg has seen a rise in both the profile and reputation of the orchestra.
