The results of the "Beauty of Books in China, 2014" competition was revealed in East China's Shanghai municipality on Monday, with 22 books winning the title of China's most beautiful books.

Later, the 22 books will be sent to Leipzig, Germany to compete in the "Best Book Design from all over the World" contest.

The "Beauty of Books in China" is an annual book design event hosted by Shanghai Press and Publication Administration.

This year's event began in May, and some top book designers from home and abroad are invited as the judges.

According to the organizing committee, 353 books from 107 publishing houses around China participated in the event and covered a wide range of subjects, including literature, art, science, education, history and children's literature.

After three rounds of selection through secret ballots from the judges, the result was finalized on Nov 15, 2014.

In an address at a press conference and book design seminar for the event, Xu Jiong, director of Shanghai Press and Publication Administration and also chairman of the judging panel, said that the prize-winning books will be sent to compete in the "Best Book Design from all over the World" contest in Leipzig, Germany next March. An exhibition, "Beauty of Books in China", will also be held there.

So far, 251 books have won the title of the "Beauty of Books in China" in the past 12 years. Among them, 13 have won the "Best Book Design from all over the World" prize.

The event also aims to promote book sales and encourage more readers, designers and book collectors to appreciate the beauty of books in China, Xu said.
