The death of her mother in 2000 was another big blow to Kong Ning. She became desperate, depressed and even attempted suicide. During this dark time, Kong struggled to get through her deep sorrow and cried day and night. The helplessness, loneliness, suffering and sorrow accumulated in her body and transformed her. One day, she bought some painting materials and guided by unconsciousness, she began to draw on canvas. After just one brush, Kong felt a little relieved, and as she continued, she felt the anxiety and weakness begin to disappear. She felt she had something to rely on and a way to release her strong feelings.

That was the beginning of her artistic road that she continues to travel. She has shot short films, created novels, designed buildings, wrote poetry and a modern dance drama script. It seems there is nothing she can't do.

"I would like to try everything; art, architecture, painting, design, clothing etc.," Kong said.

An exhibition titled "Kong Ning: Burning & Pursuing" is showing at Cipa Gallery at Caochangdi art district in Beijing until March 10. The exhibition selects Kong Ning's major artworks for people to get to know the artist.

"I didn't plan this exhibition by myself, I don't like promoting myself," Kong said. "I don't care whether people like my works or not, I care about the candid expression of life and emotion."

"I am approaching my 60s now. I don't have much time to waste. I want to create more artworks to express my feelings," she said.
