Dear Enemy is a friend to box office

Actress-turned-director Xu Jinglei's fifth directorial work Dear Enemy has grossed more than 100 million yuan ($15 million) since its Dec 23 premiere.

The film is competing with a number of holiday season blockbusters, such as Zhang Yimou's The Flowers of War and Tsui Hark's Flying Swords in Dragon Gate, featuring Jet Li.

The film revolves around a couple's battles in family life and in the banking business.

Xu directed her first film, My Father and I, in 2003. She has since become one of China's most successful women directors.

Her last film, Go Lala Go, also performed well at the domestic office, raking in 120 million yuan.
