James Cameron, director of some of the most popular global hits such as Avatar and Titanic, will take part in the second Beijing International Film Festival, organizers say.

Cameron will walk on the red carpet of the festival’s opening ceremony on April 23.

He will also hold talks with Chinese filmmakers at a forum on China’s co-production policies, achievements and how to enhance Chinese cinema’s international influence through co-produced films.

Cameron’s latest film, the 3D version of his 1997 blockbuster Titanic, will probably hit theaters in China on April 4, the same day as its North American premiere, staff at 20th Century Fox, the film’s production company, told China Daily.

The romantic tragedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet was a phenomenon in the film industry by raking in $1.8 billion around the world and $55 million in China.

It had been the highest-grossing film in the country until his sci-fi epic Avatar broke the record by earning $182 million in 2010.

The second Beijing International Film Festival will start on April 23 and last six days.
