Actor Zhang Mo was released from jail on Tuesday after being detained for drug use and possession, the Beijing Morning Post reports.

Beijing police confirmed the release on Tuesday morning.

The report says Zhang's father, Zhang Guoli, and stepmother, Deng Jie, went to the jail to visit Zhang Mo at about 10 pm on Sunday. However, Zhang Mo did not follow them out.

Zhang was caught using drugs on Jan 30. The law states he should be detained for 13 days.

Internet rumors that Zhang Mo had been released earlier were inaccurate.

Hua Yi Brothers released an apology on behalf of the actor on Tuesday, in which Zhang says: "I regret my mistakes. I'm so sorry to my family, my colleagues and the people who love me. I sincerely ask for your forgiveness."
