Some of the most iconic actors in China figure in the cast of The Last Supper, the latest work of Lu Chuan, director of City of Life and Death.
The film is based on a historic war between Xiang Yu and Liu Bang, two warlords 2,000 years ago. Hong Kong veteran Daniel Wu plays Xiang Yu who lost the war to Liu Bang, played by mainland actor Liu Ye. Liu set up the Han Dynasty after the war, which lasted about 400 years. Their final war at Gaixia is one of the most famous battles in Chinese history.
Lu, 41, made a name with Kekexili: Mountain Patrol, a film on the protection of the Tibetan antelope, and City of Life and Death based on the Nanjing Massacre in 1937.
