Jessica Simpson's father has called the birth of his granddaughter "a miracle".
The singer-and-actress announced the arrival of Maxwell Drew - her first child with fiance Eric Johnson -on Tuesday (01.05.12) and Joe Simpson says she was born to be a mother.
He wrote on twitter: "Jess dreamed since she was a young girl about being a mom. Dreams come true! So happy!
"Proud PaPaJoe !! Beautiful baby girl... What a miracle!"
Joe, his wife Tina, their daughter Ashlee and Eric's parents were all at the hospital in Los Angeles when Jessica gave birth.
A source said: "That's how Jessica and Eric wanted it."
Meanwhile it has been revealed that 9lb 13oz baby Maxwell already has a healthy appetite.
A source said: "Maxwell is eating like a champ and has a big appetite. The birth went smoothly and Jessica is already up and walking around and bonding with her little girl.
"Everyone is saying what a natural Jessica is. She was born to be a mom!"
Jessica and Eric revealed they have put their wedding plans on hold in order to concentrate on the birth of their daughter.
