Robin Gibb died of kidney failure.
The Bee Gees singer passed away last Sunday (20.05.12) and despite a two-year battle with cancer and a recent bout of pneumonia, his son Robin John - who is known as RJ - has revealed his death was a result of organ problems.
He explained: "The end was peaceful and dignified, there were no theatrics. It was only later that I cried and cried.
"It wasn't the cancer that killed my father; those reports are wrong.
"Dad had actually gone into remission and the cancer was completely unrecognisable, it was too small to detect. No scan could see it. He actually died of kidney failure.
"I wanted dialysis and CPR. They said it was futile because he was a Stage 4 cancer patient. I can't count how many times I'd been told that it would be a futile procedure because he had Stage 4 cancer and he wouldn't make it. Yet he always came back.
"Three days before, he was sitting up and watching DVDs and then suddenly he had a seizure. He was then dosed with sedatives to deal with the side effects of his chemotherapy and his liver just couldn't process them.
"He deteriorated to the point where it started to affect his kidneys as well.
"Basically my father died of kidney and liver failure. It was a really sudden downturn."
RJ and his mother Dwina are currently planning the singer's private funeral, which will take place in June, and they plan to use some of the star's songs in the service.
RJ told the Sunday Express newspaper: "We've been discussing hymns and songs. There will be some Bee Gee tracks, though we don't know which yet, and maybe Roy Orbison's 'Crying'. My father loved Roy's music and they were great friends."
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Robin - who also has Spencer, 40, and Melissa, 37, from his first marriage - paid £4 million to his former housekeeper Claire Yang for the upkeep of their three-year-old daughter Snow Robin.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "Robin never walked away from his responsibilities and always made sure the child was fully provided for.
"Snow Robin is a Gibb child so will be treated exactly the same as the other three children."
