Queen Elizabeth overwhelmed by public support

Britain's Queen Elizabeth was shocked by the amount of people who turned out to pay tribute to her yesterday (03.06.12).

The monarch - along with Princes Philip, Charles, William, Harry and Duchesses Catherine and Camilla - travelled on the luxury Spirit of Chartwell barge as part of the Thames River Pageant to celebrate her 60-year-reign and the royal was overwhelmed by the public who lined the banks of the river to see her.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said to her husband the Duke of Edinburgh: "Look at all those people, Philip. Look at them."

While specially created thrones were set up for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on the barge, they preferred to stand up so they could properly see those lined along the river.

In addition to well wishers on land, the royal party were joined by a flotilla of over 1,000 boats on the river which carried members of the public along with a number of other royals including the queen's other children and grandchildren.

The monarch chose a specially designed Angela Kelly white dress, coat and hat trimmed with silver and gold for her journey on the London Thames.

Despite adverse weather conditions the hearty 85-year-old monarch and her 90-year-old spouse only took one short break and spent the rest of the time on deck waving at their subjects.
