Editor's note: Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee stood for a moment of silence to mourn the victims of the Lushan earthquake before they delivered six instructions on quake relief on Tuesday.
Those who participate in the quake relief must:
Continue to search for victims trapped in the debris and treat the injured, and try their best to reduce casualties.
Ensure that people in disaster areas have enough supplies, including food, clothes, clean water and shelter. Epidemics must be prevented. Psychological services must be offered and schools should reopen only after safety is guaranteed.
Restore infrastructure - including water, electricity, gas and telecoms - as well as industries and agriculture as soon as possible. Rescuers should start cleaning the debris to ensure hygiene.
Start reconstruction to bring life and production back to normal. Manpower must be mobilized while scientific planning must be utilized.
Release information in a timely and accurate manner, including knowledge about medicines and rescue, and forecasts on weather and geological hazards.
Strengthen the leadership of quake relief by establishing a sound and efficient coordination system. Sichuan province must lead, coordinate and plan in a scientific and united way. State Council departments must work in cooperation.
