China will no longer ban the production of disposable foam plastic tableware (DFPT) from May but consumers still have reservations, according to an article in Beijing Times (excerpts below).
Public awareness of environmental issues has increased greatly. Foam tableware may be convenient, even at times necessary, but concerns linger. It is a difficult material to dispose of.
Even during the ban, the product was available. In the final analysis, the public will be the users and they will be the ultimate deciders of how popular, and environmentally hazardous, the products will be.
