CHANGCHUN, Northeast China - A Chinese coach said during the National Winter Games on Monday that Chinese speed skaters are expected to strike gold in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Deng Shaoxin, a coach of the Chinese national team, said she pinned her hope on the women's 500 and 1,000 meters with the latter standing an even better chance.
One of the promising skaters is Yu Jing, the 26-year-old Asian champion and winner of the women's 500m in the World Cup last year.
"The Sochi Olympics is two years away and the most important thing for me is to keep fit," said Yu.
Yu won the Asian title by defeating another Chinese short-distance specialist Wang Beixing, "I need further adjustment to ensure that I perform the best in Sochi, 2014," said Wang.
