The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary

The dictionary is an authoritative reference of Chinese.

Fangnu

Fangnu, or house slaves, means people who are struggling with high mortgage payments. The term came into being as a result of the skyrocketing housing prices in major Chinese cities.

Geili

Though literally meaning, "give strength", the word is used as "great" or "awesome". Originally North China slang, it became extremely popular in media reports.

New words

Oxford Dictionary of english

Bromance

The word combines brother and romance and refers to a close non-sexual relationship between two or more men. It describes a form of intimacy in which men treat each other as brothers.

Chillax

The combination word from chill and relax means "calm down and relax", similar to Danding in Chinese.

New words

Shin Meikai Japanese Dictionary

It is the most popular Japanese dictionary published by Sanseido.

Kitaku Nanmin

Meaning "homeward bound refugees", a reference to people who were unable to get home because of the halt of public transportation after northeastern Japan's earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.

Keikaku Teiden

It means "scheduled power outage", also a consequence of March 11, 2011, disasters in Japan. It has added to manufacturers' production difficulties.
