The 27-year-old Wu was nominated by the Asian Team Captain Naomichi "Joe" Ozaki for the continental mission of gaining stewardship of the Royal Trophy by defeating a "high in confidence" European Team following the dramatic latest edition of the Ryder Cup matches.

The extremely popular Chinese golfing star will have the chance to add to his remarkable exploits of this year when he makes his Royal Trophy debut next month.

Wu, a native of the coastal town of Xiamen, served notice that he could be the new face of Chinese golf when he became the first player from the world's most populous nation to win a tournament on the prestigious Japan Golf Tour in September.

Wu said he was both surprised and honored to have been selected for the Asian Team. "It has been a wonderful couple of months for me, and being chosen to represent Asia in the Royal Trophy has made it even more special. Suddenly the opportunity to play in a major team event has become a reality. It is a great honor, and I will do all possible to repay Captain Ozaki's faith in me," Wu said.

The sixth edition of the Europe vs Asia Golf Championship will be played at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in the Sultanate of Brunei on Dec 14-16, 2012. The continents will compete in a series of 16 foursomes, four-ball and singles matches.
