VLADIVOSTOK - Russia began a large-scale drill in the southeastern region of Primorsky Krai as part of security preparations for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Monday.
The drill is aimed to prevent terrorist activities from disturbing the summit, which is due to be held in the Pacific Island of Russky near Vladivostok in September, the report said.
The movement of vehicles is restricted in certain places and IDs are checked, the report said, adding that local residents are asked to give assistance to the law enforcement agencies and be vigilant.
The upcoming APEC summit, the first on Russian soil, is expected to gather more than 20 foreign delegations and over 10,000 foreign guests.
