JAKARTA, Indonesia - Indonesian and Chinese officials have agreed to improve bilateral relations while settling several political issues, an Indonesian official said here Friday.

"Not only conveying commitments to improve bilateral ties, the two countries also pledged to give more contribution to settling regional and global issues,"said Teuku Faizasyah, special aide of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for international relations affairs.

He was referring to the meeting between Indonesian president and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

Teuku said that among issues discussed by the two sides was violence in Syria. President Yudhoyono urged China to take an active stance in resolving the issue.

Since China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Teuku said that President Yudhoyono expects China to take a more significant role in the UNSC.

Yang's visit to Indonesia was part of his Southeast Asia tour to several ASEAN countries.
