Strong shallow quake hits eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA - A strong shallow earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted Central Sulawesi of Indonesia, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said Saturday.
The USGS said on its website the quake measuring 6.6 on the Rchter scale.
The quake struck at 16:41 pm Jakarta time (0941 GMT) with epicenter at 27 km southwest Parigi Mountong of Central Sulawesi and with a depth of 10 km, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.
The intensity of the quake was believed to be 4 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) in Palu town of Central Sulawesi, the official said.
