UN chief in Iran to discuss Syria issue

TEHRAN - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said here Wednesday that he will discuss the Syrian issue with Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival at Tehran's International Mehrabad Airport on Wednesday, Ban said that "During my visit to Tehran, I plan to meet with senior Iranian officials, including the country's leaders, in this regard," according to the semi- official Fars news agency.
Iran can play an important role in the resolution of the regional conflicts, Ban was quoted as saying.
The UN secretary general arrived in Tehran to attend the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit slated for August 30-31.
