DAMASCUS - UN-Arab League special representative Lakhdar Brahimi arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus Sunday for meetings with Syrian officials.
Brahimi's visit will be brief and during the visit he will meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other officials on the situation in Syria, sources said.
The aim of the visit is apparently to discuss a new initiative to solve the 21-month crisis in Syria that has been evolved into a civil war.
Brahimi has previously called for a ceasefire in Syria, but his calls have not materialized on ground with both parties of the conflict blaming one another for the incessant battles.
The details of his initiative remains undeclared.
